Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Jenice Armstrong had an amazing father, and for Father’s Day, she devoted her column to celebrating his memory.

Republicans in the House of Representatives last week voted to accept a new budget bill that calls for an increase in spending for veterans and related programs. The bill also calls for a ban on abortions at Veterans Affairs medical centers. According to congressional Democrats, this is extreme. In the post-Roe era, it is anything but.

The anti-charter school activist group Network for Public Education recently released a report on the classical charter school movement. Its findings have all the simplicity ridiculed in Orwell’s Animal Farm: “Four legs good, two legs bad.” In the case of the NPE report, this would be: “Progressive education good, anything else bad.”

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. That may seem unnecessary since few of us are unaware of Alzheimer’s. The name invokes one of our greatest health fears: the fear of being mentally impaired. And it is common knowledge that Alzheimer’s is an incurable descent into unremitting isolation and confusion.

Toxic, Christian patriarchy is making a comeback with younger millennials and Gen Z. Scroll through Christian Twitter, and you’ll find men and women ideologically and radically committed to traditional gender roles, lamenting the sins of yoga pants, makeupless wives, and feminized masculinity. The men extol the virtues of virility, headship, and physical labor, admonishing women to become quiet, submissive homemakers.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) says he is more likely to win than former President Donald Trump, and he is obviously right. Trump was a drag on the ticket in both 2016 and 2020. He single-handedly lost the Senate by making the Georgia runoffs all about himself. He repeated that trick in the 2022 midterm elections when candidates he had endorsed crashed in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and pretty much everywhere else.
