One of the biggest things that residents of California’s liberal cities have learned since the start of the pandemic is that voting matters. Hopefully, they will stop relying on recall elections to bail them out after every mistake.

As former President Donald Trump was being indicted for a fourth time — on this occasion, in Georgia — Rachel Maddow had Hillary Clinton on her nightly TV show. She prompted the failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee by saying, “If bad actors tell us falsely that every election is stolen and that the only way an election is trustworthy is if they come out on top of it, it tells you something not just about that person or that moment, it maybe wounds us as a democracy in a way that is hard to repair.”

America’s political parties are the oldest and third-oldest in the world, and they have competed for votes among a population that has been diverse since colonial times. The United Kingdom has again been labeled the "sick man of Europe." This time by the Economist. The description is apt. There is hope, however. The last time the U.K. cured its economic sickness was under policies instituted by former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

President Joe Biden can’t be bothered to disrupt his beach vacation to even comment on, let alone visit, the most deadly wildfires in over 100 years, but that didn’t stop other Democrats from blaming the carnage in Maui on climate change.
