By now, Philadelphia’s crime surge over the last three years is well documented. The city has set records for homicides and violent crime since 2020. Car thefts and carjackings have also plagued the city. Philadelphia reached over 1,000 carjackings in a year for the first time in 2022. This was after Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) had her car stolen at gunpoint in 2021. The City of Brotherly Love has turned into the City of Brotherly Theft, and the people are suffering. And now, they are apparently relying on themselves to retrieve their stolen vehicles.

It is typical for Democrats and activists who oppose school choice for poorer families to send their children to private schools rather than the failing public schools other students are trapped in, but that doesn’t make the hypocrisy any less galling.

Nikki Haley’s likability among voters is one of her main assets, but speaking on background, multiple state Republican operatives told a story of Haley’s rise to power as a tale of her stepping on toes, upsetting the party establishment, and in many cases never making amends.

After former team owner Daniel Snyder sold the Washington Commanders, many people foolishly hoped that the new ownership group would entertain the idea of returning the longtime Redskins name to the franchise. This wishful thinking was egged on after a group known as the Native American Guardian’s Association created a petition that has nearly 131,000 signatures to bring back the glorious Redskins moniker.

The major takeaway from CNN's latest polling to send shockwaves through the commentariat was the conclusion that in a head-to-head matchup against President Joe Biden, Nikki Haley would win with the widest margin of any Republican jockeying for the party's nomination. But buried in the data are even more potentially momentous findings, namely that the former ambassador to the United Nations also wins the greatest margin of white voters.

President Joe Biden doesn't have much to brag about in his slow-growth economic record. But there is a kernel of truth in one component of his incessant Bidenomics boasts. The nation's unemployment rate has remained near half-century lows — despite more than a year of an aggressive monetary tightening campaign by the Federal Reserve.

Gas prices are higher than they were a year ago. So are flour, rice, spaghetti, ground beef, sirloin steak, lemons, strawberries, and ice cream prices. And reports from earlier this summer showed that the cost of eating at restaurants and electricity prices are higher than last year.

The gains made by school choice advocates mean that more than at any time in recent memory, public schooling isn’t the only form of education parents can choose for their children. As home schooling has grown, especially post-pandemic, and voucher programs, or education savings accounts, slowly spread state by state, it’s a good time to take a look at the state of our nation’s K-12 education, system by system, heading into the new school year.
